History has a way of finding Juan Soto in the biggest moments, and Friday night at Citi Field was no different. In the bottom of the seventh inning of a Subway Series showdown between the New York Mets and New York Yankees , the 27-year-old superstar crushed career home run No. 250 to center field, sending the Citi Field crowd into an absolute frenzy and putting the Mets on the board against their crosstown rivals.
The blast came off Yankees right-hander Schlittler, who left a 97.5 mph four-seam fastball up in the zone with nowhere to hide. Soto did not miss it. The ball jumped off his bat at 102.6 mph with a 28-degree launch angle and sailed 393 feet to dead center, a line-drive missile that perfectly encapsulates everything that makes Soto one of the most dangerous hitters in baseball today.

At just 27 years old, reaching the 250-home run milestone is a statement that puts Soto in extraordinarily rare company. Albert Pujols , one of the greatest power hitters in baseball history, holds the record as the youngest player to reach 250 home runs , accomplishing the feat at age 26 years and 258 days. Soto is knocking on that door, and the trajectory of his career suggests the 300-home run plateau is not a question of if but when.
What makes this milestone even more remarkable is the stage it happened on. Hitting No. 250 against the Yankees, the franchise where Soto was a star before signing his historic $765 million contract with the Mets, carries a special kind of electricity. This was not just a home run. It was a statement delivered in the most New York way possible, in front of a packed house at Citi Field against the organization he walked away from to chase a championship on the other side of the city.
Soto now has 6 home runs on the 2026 season, and if his track record of second-half explosions holds true, the Mets faithful should buckle up. Career milestone moments like Friday night are exactly why Steve Cohen wrote that record-breaking check, and Soto is making sure every single dollar is worth it.
