The New York Mets dropped their ninth consecutive game on Friday in a 12-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs . It seems as if nothing is going right for the Mets at the moment. Starting pitcher Kodai Senga struggled on Friday, as he surrendered six earned runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings on the mound. Senga commented on his outing after the game, via SNY.
"Not getting ahead, not getting first pitch strikes, getting to hitter's counts. Obviously not a good sign," Senga said via interpreter. "At the same time, I'm not all that far off either. A lot of this stuff is the pitches just not being strong near the hitter, near the catcher, near home plate. Not being able to deceive them as much. And if things go right, the results could be very different. So, it's not all that far off."
Senga has endured a difficult season . He has now pitched to an 8.83 ERA across four starts. In his 17.1 innings of work, Senga has surrendered 17 earned runs.
This is a pitcher who turned in a strong 3.02 ERA in 2025. He was limited to one start in 2024, but Senga had a 2.98 ERA in 2023. He is a good pitcher who is simply going through a challenging time on the mound at the moment.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza was asked if Senga will make his next start after Friday's game, via SNY.
"We just finished a game here," Mendoza said. "As of right now, he's in line. But we have an off day, we will see."
The Mets will look to snap their losing streak on Saturday in another matchup with the Cubs.
