The New York Mets turned a tense night into a defining moment, erupting for a double-digit 12th inning to beat the Washington Nationals 16–7 and continue a recent surge after a brutal start to the season. The Mets' outburst at Nationals Park showcased how far the club has come and immediately shifted the tone of the series.

Carson Benge opened the inning with a go‑ahead infield single that put New York up 7–6. The Mets then batted around with relentless pressure. Vidal Brujan dropped a perfect bunt single, Brett Baty drilled a two‑run RBI single, and Marcus Semien and AJ Ewing followed with hard‑hit RBI singles as Washington's pitching unraveled.
When Benge stepped in again, he blew the inning open with a two‑run double into the gap. Bo Bichette followed with another two‑run double, pushing the lead into double digits and forcing the Nationals to turn to infielder Jorbit Vivas to finish the frame. The Mets ended the inning with a commanding 16–6 lead.
USA Today's Bob Nightengale captured the moment on X, formerly Twitter, noting the Mets' 10‑run eruption and their recent surge after a difficult start to the season. Washington scratched across a run in the bottom half, but New York closed out a 16–7 win—the club's sixth in their last seven games.
"The New York Mets unload all of their frustrations on the Washington Nationals in one inning tonight. They score 10 runs in the 12th inning and take a 16-6 lead over the Nationals. This will be their third 3-game winning streak in the last two weeks."
The performance was historically significant, as New York became the first National League team since 1919 to score 10 or more runs in a single extra inning. Players and staff pointed to the eruption as proof of the club's growing depth, sharper execution, and renewed edge as the Mets head into a demanding stretch of divisional matchups.
