It has not been a good season for the New York Mets , as they continue to struggle with a 34-46 record while sitting in last place in the NL East. Because of that, many expect them to sell at the MLB trade deadline. But a recent sit-down with MLB insider Mark Feinsand put that all to rest.

"I'm not so sure the Mets are even going to be sellers, let alone ready for a fire sale. As bad as the season has gone for them, they're only seven games out of a playoff spot (entering their doubleheader Wednesday), and I think Steve Cohen and David Stearns are going to give their high-priced roster every opportunity to get hot and challenge for one of those Wild Card spots," Feinsand stated in a Reddit AMA.
The Mets have already traded a starting pitcher , and some believed that was the start of a fire sale. However, if the reports are true, the team believes they can make a run. Since the conversation took place, the Mets have fallen further and are now nine games out of a final wildcard spot. This is a stark contrast to the massive expectations the team had earlier this season.
Injuries have hindered the Mets this season, and that is a major reason for their struggles. Additionally, it may be a reason they believe they can make a run once the entire team gets healthy. With the All-Star Break fast approaching, time may be running out on the Mets as they decide whether they will attempt to salvage this season.
