New York Mets utilityman Brett Baty delivered one of the biggest swings of his career Monday night. His first career grand slam powered a five-run opening inning in an 8-5 victory over the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park.

Jared Young opened the scoring with an RBI single before Baty came to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded. The 26-year-old attacked Bryce Elder's first-pitch slider and drove it over the center-field wall, giving the Mets a 5-0 advantage.
The blast was Baty's eighth home run of the season and helped the Mets secure their sixth victory in seven games. The Braves were able to trim the deficit to two by the fifth inning, but New York's bullpen prevented the comeback from gaining momentum.

SNY shared a postgame clip Monday on X, formerly Twitter, featuring Baty reflecting on his night . The versatile infielder described what the accomplishment meant.

"First homer here, first grand slam here. Haven't hit many grand slams in my life, too, so it's pretty cool."
Truist Park already held a place in Baty's career. He hit his first home run there during his debut in 2022, connecting in his first career at-bat.
This time, Baty's swing delivered the key hit before Atlanta could settle into the series opener. Francisco Lindor added a 420-foot solo home run, while Young contributed two RBI singles and a ninth-inning sacrifice fly.
The Mets received two scoreless innings from Daniel Duarte. Kodai Senga then worked a scoreless ninth to record his first career save.

For Baty, the milestone created another memory at the ballpark where his career began. His first grand slam supplied New York with an early cushion and helped secure another road victory during the club's encouraging stretch.
