Miami safety Zechariah Poyser was ejected for targeting after a late hit on Florida State quarterback Ashton Daniels .
Daniels remained on the ground and looked visibly shaken after the hit; however, he was able to run off the field as the officials began the review process. Daniels went to the medical tent for evaluation and returned to the field on the next drive.
Daniels slid after a 15-yard scramble that gave FSU a first down. Poyser launched into the head area of the sliding quarterback and was flagged for the hit immediately.
Poyser was ejected, a blow to Miami's secondary, which lost Bryce Fitzgerald for a period in the first half after a shoulder injury. They've also been without starting cornerback O.J. Frederique since the season opener against Stanford and are playing tonight without CB Ja'Boree Antoine.
The other Week 1 starting cornerback, Xavier Lucas, was active for the first time since the Stanford game.
Miami depth chart
Without Poyser, junior Dylan Day steps in at safety alongside freshman JJ Dunnigan, who has been been starting since Bryce Fitzgerald moved to cornerback to cover for Miami's other injuries. Day had two tackles in the first half.
With the deficiencies in the secondary overall, sophomore Ryan Mack has also seen more action tonight. Xavier Lucas and Damari Brown have been injured throughout the season but were active for FSU. Lucas made two tackles in the first half.
