Michael Carrick is still expected to leave Manchester United at the end of the season, but his recent transfer activity hints he might stick around.
Ineos chose Carrick over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the interim role, and so far, that decision has been paying off.

The search for a permanent manager is already in motion, but Carrick's unbeaten return has moved him into serious consideration.
Carrick isn't shy about his intentions—he wants the job full-time. The support from fans is clear, and he seems to be looking ahead to future signings already.

At the moment, Carrick is expected to move on at the end of the season, which would mean he wouldn't be around to oversee the summer transfer window.
Although Ineos has taken over transfer dealings at Old Trafford, the head coach will still have a say in first-team signings.

When asked by reporters ahead of the match against Newcastle United , Carrick confirmed that bringing in a left winger could be on the agenda for this summer.
"Adding a left winger is a possibility, yes. It's a point to consider, definitely," said Carrick.
Carrick is also content with his role as head coach rather than manager — something that set him apart from Ruben Amorim before him.
Michael Carrick thinking beyond interim role at Manchester United
During the same press conference, Carrick spoke about his intention to focus on the club's future, even if Ineos opt for a different direction in the summer.

"I love being here and doing what I'm doing," Carrick said.
"I don't make decisions to get quick short-term results. My responsibility, no matter how long my tenure lasts, is to make the decisions that are best for the club in the long term."
Carrick's approach highlights why he is viewed as a strong candidate for the permanent job. He has shown a clear commitment to United's long-term vision.
He has been visible around the academy games and seems more invested in building something lasting, rather than just focusing on immediate results. That contrasts with Amorim's approach and reflects well on him with both players and fans.
