FOXBOROUGH - The Patriots offense has evolved from the first week of the season, until now.
Josh McDaniels has shown quite a bit from his playbook, and also incorporated some new elements to take advantage of Drake Maye’s strengths.
Might he have a few tricks up his sleeve, unveil a few new wrinkles in Sunday’s potential AFC East-clinching game against Buffalo.
When asked Thursday, McDaniels was rather coy with his answer.
“We’ve used what we feel like we’ve had to use to win each week,” McDaniels said. “I don’t think you will ever get to everything. So there’s certainly more things we can do. I think what matters, hopefully we’ve picked the right ones. That’s going to be the most important thing.
“But, there’s always new things, there’s always things you grow to, I think, and you build through the season and you evolve offensively. But, I’d say there’s quite a few things that we’ve done over and over again that are the core of what we do just like everybody. And there are a lot of sprinkles you can put on top of the ice cream every once in awhile if you feel like it fits.”
As it is, given it’s been two months since they last played Week 5, there will inevitably be some different elements that the Bills didn’t see in that matchup. Some of those “sprinkles.”
Said McDaniels: “Hopefully we pick the right things.”
