Mike McCarthy all in on Pat McAfee’s scoreboard challenge

Mike McCarthy isn’t shying away from expectations when it comes to his Pittsburgh Steelers ' offense putting points on the board.

During an appearance on " The Pat McAfee Show ," McCarthy delivered a lighthearted but telling response when host Pat McAfee led him into what kind of offense fans want to see.

“He wants to run a scoreboard up. I know. I know what we all want. We all want to run a scoreboard up,” McAfee said.

McCarthy played into the goading.

“Yes, we certainly are when I'm calling the plays. That's right,” he said, leaning into the moment.

The exchange was playful, but it reflects a real expectation surrounding McCarthy’s arrival. His track record backs it up. From his time with the Green Bay Packers to the Dallas Cowboys , McCarthy has consistently led high-scoring offenses, including multiple seasons ranked near or at the top of the league under quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Dak Prescott .

That history is part of why the Steelers brought him in. After years of a more conservative offensive identity – too conservative for Steelers fans -- there is a push toward a more aggressive, modern approach.
