The Los Angeles Angels have gotten off to a tough start to the 2026 MLB season, currently sitting at 13-22 on the season. Fans hoping that this year would be the one in which the team finally breaks its ugly playoff drought that has spanned more than a decade have surely been disappointed thus far.
One of the rare bright spots for the Angels this year has been the play of the legendary Mike Trout , the future Hall of Famer who is still getting it done at the age of 34.
As trade rumors continue to swirl around the former AL MVP, a recent stat has showcased how special Trout has been this year: on-base percentage, where Trout is currently second in the entire MLB at .433. Trout trails only New York Yankees breakout star first baseman Ben Rice for first place in the league.
Overall, it’s been a strong season for Trout, who has dealt with injury concerns and other issues throughout the years, but now is looking like an All-Star once again.
Trout’s dominance, along with the Angels’ struggles as a whole, has left some to wonder whether or not the team might consider trading their franchise icon. Los Angeles hasn’t made the playoffs since the 2014 season, and they amazingly haven’t won a playoff game since 2009.
Still, Trout has become synonymous with the team over the years, and trading him, even at this current stage of his career, would likely be a tough pill for fans to swallow.
In any case, the Angels will next take the field on Monday evening at home against the Chicago White Sox.
