For the AFC Championship Game in Denver , Mike Vrabel won’t be the only one on the New England sideline with three Patriots Super Bowl rings.
His former teammate Adam Vinatieri will be the Patriots’ honorary captain at Mile High. Asked how good a teammate Vinatieri was on the 98.5 SportsHub pregame show, Vrabel dropped an amusing one-liner before praising the kicker.
“Kickers are good teammates when they make their kicks, and that certainly was Adam,” Vrabel said. “It was very calming to know that if it ever came down to it, that he would be there to make a kick when we had to have it.”
Two of the three Super Bowls Vrabel won in New England came down to a late Vinatieri field goal, and the kicker is a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
New England’s current kicker, Andy Borregales , was excited to be drafted by the Patriots because he idolized Vinatieri.
“I’m excited. All my life, I looked up to Adam Vinatieri” , Borregales said. “(He’s) a legend, honestly, and especially all of those kicks in the snow, all of those clutch kicks in the snow.”
With Vinatieri in attendance, perhaps Borregales will have a chance to deliver a clutch kick of his own in Denver.
