The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Oct. 11, but a celebration by Milwaukee reliever Abner Uribe became an unexpected source of controversy. Some Dodgers supporters criticized Uribe's emotional reaction, prompting rival fans to push back online.
Uribe had just escaped a dangerous situation in the sixth inning, striking out Andy Pages with runners on first and third. His animated celebration reflected the importance of the moment, but one Dodgers fan on social media called it "ridiculous behavior in the 6th inning."

The complaint drew sharp responses from baseball fans who felt the pitcher had every reason to celebrate. Their criticism added a social media subplot to Milwaukee's postseason victory, as the Brewers sought to reverse last year's disappointing NLCS result against Los Angeles.
Abner Uribe's celebration triggered the backlash
Uribe entered the sixth inning after Milwaukee starter Jacob Misiorowski left the game. With the Dodgers threatening, the Brewers needed their bullpen to protect a narrow 2-1 score and prevent Los Angeles from regaining control.
Uribe helped end the inning without allowing the Dodgers to score. After striking out Pages, the reliever celebrated emphatically while leaving the mound, a reaction that captured the intensity of a high-pressure postseason situation.

A Dodgers supporter objected to the display on X, formerly known as Twitter, describing it as excessive for the sixth inning. Other baseball fans responded by defending Uribe, arguing that escaping a major scoring threat justified his excitement.
Rival fans criticized the Dodgers fan base
The complaint quickly became a broader debate about how some Dodgers fans respond when opposing players celebrate. Critics argued that a pitcher who makes a pivotal out should be allowed to show emotion without being accused of disrespecting the game.
One fan responding to the complaint wrote that the exchange illustrated why people disliked the Dodgers fan base. Others described the reaction as entitled, suggesting that some supporters expected opponents to remain subdued even during important moments.

Those comments reflected the opinions of individual users rather than a consensus among all baseball fans. Still, the exchange showed how a single post can draw attention to long-standing rivalries and perceptions surrounding a successful, high-profile franchise.
Milwaukee's bullpen delivered when it mattered
Uribe's celebration came during a game in which Milwaukee's relief pitchers played a decisive role. Misiorowski worked 4 1/3 innings, allowing 5 hits, 3 walks and 1 run before the Brewers turned to their bullpen.
Milwaukee's relievers combined to throw 4 2/3 scoreless innings, limiting Los Angeles to just 2 additional hits. DL Hall earned the win, while Aaron Ashby handled the eighth inning and Trevor Megill finished the game.

The bullpen's performance mattered because the Dodgers had opportunities to take control earlier. Milwaukee's pitchers repeatedly escaped trouble, turning a close contest into a test of execution and nerve that the home team ultimately passed.

The Brewers won with timely hitting and small-ball tactics
Brice Turang tied the game in the fourth inning with a solo home run off Dodgers starter Tarik Skubal. The shot gave Milwaukee a needed spark after Los Angeles had taken the lead in the second inning.
The decisive run arrived in the fifth. Garrett Mitchell drew a walk, rookie Cooper Pratt moved him to second with a bunt, and Luis Lara delivered an RBI single to put Milwaukee ahead 2-1.

That sequence illustrated the Brewers' ability to score without relying entirely on home runs. Their combination of patience, baserunning and situational hitting proved enough to beat a talented Dodgers lineup in a game where every run carried significant weight.
The Dodgers left too many chances unused
Los Angeles opened the scoring when Shohei Ohtani walked and later came home on Andy Pages' RBI single. The Dodgers then loaded the bases with one out, but Misiorowski escaped the inning by inducing an inning-ending double play.
The Dodgers also struggled to convert opportunities later in the game. They grounded into 3 double plays and stranded 9 runners, leaving their offense unable to build on its early advantage.

Milwaukee's pitching and defense made those missed chances costly. In a 2-1 postseason game, even one additional hit with runners aboard could have changed the outcome, but the Dodgers could not find the breakthrough they needed.

The victory carried extra meaning after last year's sweep
The Brewers entered the rematch looking to respond to their 2025 NLCS defeat, when the Dodgers swept Milwaukee in 4 games. Los Angeles had won Game 1 of that series and continued its run toward another championship.
This time, Milwaukee secured the opener at American Family Field, ending a 7-game postseason losing streak against the Dodgers. The result gave the Brewers an early advantage and a measure of momentum in the best-of-seven series.

The victory did not erase the challenge ahead, but it showed Milwaukee could compete with the defending champions in a tight game. For Brewers supporters, Uribe's celebration became one more symbol of a team playing with confidence under postseason pressure.
Fun fact:According to the Dodgers, the " Trolley Dodgers " nickname originated in Brooklyn in 1896 because fans had to dodge electric trolleys near Eastern Park. The name was eventually shortened to "Dodgers."
Game 2 made the series even more intense
Milwaukee followed its Game 1 victory with another win on Oct. 12, defeating Los Angeles 7-4 to take a 2-0 lead in the NLCS. William Contreras recorded 3 hits and 3 RBIs, helping the Brewers pull away during the middle innings.

The Dodgers' pitching struggled to contain Milwaukee's offense, while 4 Brewers relievers retired all 15 batters they faced. After the first 2 games, the series shifted to Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Game 2 strengthened Milwaukee's position and increased the pressure on the Dodgers. The online dispute over Uribe's celebration remained a sideshow to the larger story: the Brewers had won the first 2 games against the reigning champions.
The debate reflects baseball's emotional side
Baseball has long included fist pumps, shouts and visible displays of relief after pivotal plays. For pitchers, escaping a jam can be as consequential as hitting a home run, particularly in October, when one mistake can decide a game.

Some fans prefer quieter celebrations, while others see emotion as part of the competition. Uribe's reaction exposed that difference, with the criticism of his display drawing more attention than the play itself might otherwise have received.
The online response also demonstrated how rivalries can shape reactions to the same moment. What one supporter considered excessive, others viewed as a deserved release of pressure after a crucial strikeout in a championship series.
