MLB Network analyst drops harsh take on Mets' chances of bouncing back in 2026 appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The New York Mets are one of a number of teams that have failed to meet their preseason expectations through the first month of the season. New York entered Tuesday's game against the Washington Nationals with a 9-19 overall record. Manager Carlos Mendoza 's job security could be in question after the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies already fired managers Alex Cora and Rob Thomson. While the Mets have struggled , there is a chance they could get back on track. MLB Network analyst Harold Reynolds does not expect that to happen , however.
"I've always said I didn't like the roster that's constructed," Reynolds said. "That's just being honest and just being factual. I just don't think it's a good roster. I think the Phillies have a chance to dig out of it because I think they have players that can make it happen. I don't think the Mets' roster is good enough to dig out of it. I don't."
Mets fans will not love Reynolds' take, but the team's performance supports his claim. New York has been unable to find any consistency so far during the 2026 campaign.
Anything can happen in baseball. All it takes is a week or two for a team to heat up. However, the Mets certainly do not look like a contender at the moment.
The ball club will attempt to prove Reynolds wrong. If they cannot get things going within the next couple of months, a rebuild could become a realistic option for the Mets, however.
