MLB rumors: Braves predicted to be top trade suitor for Red Sox ace, even amid Tarik Skubal chase appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
It seems inevitable that some strong arms will be dealt this month ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline. Tarik Skubal , Joe Ryan , and Sonny Gray are all names to keep an eye on. Gray has been dealt on trade deadline day in the past, going from the Athletics to the New York Yankees in 2017.
The Red Sox had just won five straight games before losing on Tuesday night. They are trying to make a run back to the postseason, but as of now, they are not contenders. If this remains the case, Gray should definitely be dealt away amid a sad season in Beantown.
Bob Nightengale considers Gray to be the next best pitcher on the market not named Skubal. Nightengale gives his prediction for what will happen to Gray if the Sox do not make a run at contention this month. He mentions the Atlanta Braves as a choice that Gray prefers, and maybe even the Chicago White Sox .
"Gray is 9-1 with a 2.69 ERA and may be the best pitcher traded not named Tarik Skubal . He has been everything the Red Sox could possibly have envisioned when they acquired him from the St. Louis Cardinals . The Cardinals even chipped in $20 million to cover the remaining $41 million on his contract. The biggest obstacles in a potential Gray trade is that he has a complete no-trade clause, and will be owed about $11 million in his remaining salary plus a $10 million buyout on his mutual option."
" Prediction:The Red Sox will pay his $10 million mutual option, and trade Gray to a team of his choosing, perhaps Atlanta or the Chicago White Sox, unless they somehow claw back into this weak wild-card race."
