The Boston Red Sox have revived their season with a strong start to the summer. Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers are fighting for the AL West lead despite a record around .500. If the Rangers are going to sell, the Red Sox have previously shown interest in shortstop Corey Seager . The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon report that the two sides could make a deal.

'The Rangers don't want to part with Seager, mind you. They want to get him healthy and make a legitimate run at the postseason. But if they sputter over the next three-plus weeks, the idea of moving Seager will at least warrant internal discussion," Rosenthal and Sammon wrote.
"A number of clubs, including the Boston Red Sox , asked the Rangers about Seager last offseason, sources with knowledge of the conversations said. The curiosity of those teams grew after the Rangers traded second baseman Marcus Semien , their other major signing prior to the 2021-22 lockout. The Rangers' response on Seager was clear: We would need to be overwhelmed."

The Red Sox gave up the farm to land Garrett Crochet before the 2025 season , so their tradable assets are few and far between. But if they can get the Rangers shortstop, they should give up everyone Texas asks for in the deal.

The Red Sox have been resting on three prospects coming up and making it big. But Marcelo Mayer , Kristian Campbell , and Roman Anthony have all had disappointing seasons. If the Rangers want any of those players for Seager, Craig Breslow must consider it.
After the Red Sox's dreadful start to the season, Breslow was on the hottest seat in the league. Trading for Seager may be the move that keeps the former pitcher in the big chair moving forward. Could this deal happen before the August 3 trade deadline?
