MLB rumors: Robbie Ray could be popular trade candidate before deadline appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The San Francisco Giants have endured a difficult 2026 MLB season. While they may not enter a full rebuild at the trade deadline, the Giants could still look to trade some players away. It seems as if they will keep stars such as Rafael Devers, Matt Chapman and Willy Adames , but Robbie Ray is a pitcher who could be moved.
MLB insider Jon Heyman recently discussed the subject during an appearance on MLB Network.
"I'm going to put Robbie Ray right near the top (of possible starting pitching trade candidates)," Heyman said. "He makes $25 million but has a three ERA, he's been really good."
Ray would surely draw trade interest if made available for a deal. The 34-year-old has pitched to a 3.04 ERA across nine starts in 2026. He has also struck out 49 hitters in his 50.1 innings of work on the mound.
The Giants would like to compete this year, but they are currently 18-26 and eight games out of first place in the National League West standings. While they could possibly make a National League Wild Card run, Ray will be a pitcher who they will likely consider moving. He is going to be a free agent following the '26 campaign. San Francisco will surely not want to risk losing him in free agency for nothing in return.
Robbie Ray's performance will be worth closely monitoring over the next couple of months before the MLB trade deadline. As for the Giants, San Francisco will play the Athletics on Friday night at 9:40 PM EST.
