The Los Angeles Dodgers took two of three from the New York Yankees to start the second half. Both teams should be buyers at the MLB trade deadline, which is coming up on August 3. The Athletics have crashed out of the playoff race, which could mean the trade of Shea Langeliers , according to MLB.com. The Yankees and Dodgers should be vying for the slugging catcher.

" The Athletics appear to have fallen out of the playoff race, losing 10 of their last 11 games to fall 14 games below the .500 mark. The stretch of poor play may very well dictate their Deadline fate. MLB Network insider Jon Heyman reported that the A's are 'open to anything,'" MLB.com reported.
"Langeliers would have plenty of suitors, should the A's decide to move him. The Yankees — whose catchers have combined for a .519 OPS this season — are known to be seeking an upgrade behind the plate and would prefer a right-handed bat to complement the lefty-hitting Austin Wells . Amid news that All-Star catcher Will Smith is taking a pause from baseball activities as he works his way back from neck inflammation, the Dodgers could also be in the market to add a catcher"

The Yankees have been miserable offensively for a month, in part because of Austin Wells' awful play . They need better bats at the bottom of their lineup, which Langeliers could fill beautifully.

The Dodgers need a catcher for this season, but have their catcher of the present and future on the roster. Smith may be out long-term , but he is signed through 2033. Dalton Rushing has made a name for himself as a pest this year, but he expects to be the catcher of the future in LA.
If Rushing and Smith are around long-term, does it make sense for the Dodgers to trade for Langeliers? They stop at no cost to win the World Series, which may give them the edge anyway.
