MLS Announces Punishment Decision on Luis Suarez For Violating the League's Policy
In the world of soccer, a major issue that has existed for many years is the simulation of fouls. Many players have used this tactic to gain an advantage, whether by earning a penalty or a free kick.
I’m sure many still remember Arjen Robben ’s simulated foul against Mexico in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil .
In response to this issue, MLS has opted to take a stricter approach by sanctioning players who engage in overly obvious and out-of-place simulations.
For that reason, the MLS has decided to punish Luis Suárez for his simulation in the match against the New England Revolution on April 25.
MLS Announces Punishment Decision on Luis Suarez for Violating the League's Policy
With such an extensive soccer career, Luis Suárez has developed certain on-field instincts that only come with experience.
However, the MLS takes a different approach to the actions of the former FC Barcelona player.
In recent years, the league has adopted a more proactive stance against these types of simulations, even suspending players or imposing fines when necessary.
Such measures reinforce the league’s commitment to upholding the rules and preserving the integrity of the game by discouraging unsportsmanlike conduct.
According to the MLS Official Website: “The MLS Disciplinary Committee has fined Inter Miami CF forward Luis Suárez for violating the league’s policy regarding simulation/embellishment in the 72nd minute of Miami’s match against the New England Revolution on April 25.”
The play in question occurred in a tight match against the Revs, where Inter Miami could not find the spaces to score the equalizing goal; so, after a cross from Rodrigo De Paul , Suarez, seeing that he could not reach the ball, decided to go down, simulating a foul inside the opponent’s box.
The exact amount of the fine for the Uruguayan forward is still unknown, but this marks a starting point for these situations that take away the beauty of the sport.
