2026 NFL Draft Day is finally here and the Minnesota Vikings sit at No. 18 overall in the first round.
Just like every year, the weeks leading up to MN Vikings Draft Day have been chalk-full of rumors, mocks and "expert" opinions. But tonight, shortly after the first round begins at 7 p.m. CDT, we'll start to get real answers on how the Vikings plan to address needs and add talent with this 2026 class.
This MN Vikings draft cycle has been unlike many in recent history. Inside the building, secrets have been locked down by acting general manager Rob Brzezinski , making it difficult for national and local NFL insiders to get a good read on what they plan to do.

However, that hasn't lead to mixed opinions on who Minnesota will take tonight. Actually, quite the opposite. Instead, just about every final mock draft put out by draft voices who hold weight, has the MN Vikings slecting Oregon safety, Dillon Thieneman at No. 18 overall.
Peter Schrager – ESPN (4/22) : Dillon Thieneman, S, Oregon
The whole industry has been putting Thieneman with Minnesota at No. 18 for weeks. It makes sense. The Vikings need an impact safety, and Thieneman has the speed and instincts to thrive in coordinator Brian Flores' defense. But … I also think Minnesota could consider Sadiq here if he's still available. T.J. Hockenson is entering a contract year.
Ben Goessling – Star Tribune (4/22) : Dillon Thieneman, S, Oregon
The Vikings love safeties with the kind of instincts and versatility Thieneman showed at Oregon. As they prepare for a major shift at the position (possibly as soon as this fall) after Harrison Smith's retirement, Thieneman could be a perfect successor.
The Athletic Beat Writer Mock Draft (4/22) : Dillon Thieneman, S, Oregon
The Vikings might think No. 18 is too rich for Thieneman. They need a safety, whether potential Hall of Famer Harrison Smith returns for 2026 or not. Thieneman's versatility offers intrigue, and he tore it up athletically at the NFL combine. Oregon coaches rave about his work habits.

Is everyone expecting the Vikings to draft Dillon Thieneman?
Well, not quite EVERYONE. As you can see above, there are a few NFL Draft insiders who are picking the Minnesota Vikings to select someone other than Dillon Thieneman.
The most non-Thienaman hype entering draft day is coming out of the same place, Eugene, OR — his Oregon Ducks teammate, tight end Kenyon Sadiq. It's possible Sadiq is taken before the MN Vikings draft at No. 18 overall.
The Rob Brzezinski Draft: How Will Vikings Draft Look Different Under Interim GM?
Without a doubt, he is the biggest underdog pick player to watch tonight, should he slip to the Vikings, with Thieneman still on the board.
But that's what makes Andrew Krammer's (Star Tribune) report from Wednesday evening so very intriguing. Everything we think we know about the Minnesota Vikings draft plans today… none of it came from the Vikings.
There's a youth movement coming for the Vikings . But interim General Manager Rob Brzezinski did not tip his hand about how they view this week's NFL draft class or roster needs they will address with nine selections…
Do they have confirmed interest in Thieneman? Yes. But just because they like him, that doesn't mean they will draft the Oregon safety. Even the fact that their interest IS confirmed, is noteworthy.
If the Vikings were really targeting Thieneman that heavily… why would they tell anyone about it? In other words, all of the steam could very well be a smokescreen for a move nobody is expecting.
Personally, I think the Vikings are leaning into the "we need a Safety / we love Dillon Thieneman" bit as a smokescreen.
Vikings have no reason to announce Harrison Smith coming back before the draft either.
I'm VERY confident the Vikings do no draft a Safety at pick No. 18. https://t.co/56GnXMw1eB— The Purple Persuasion (@TPPSkol) April 22, 2026
More Vikings Draft: Vikings Beat Writer Makes Surprise Pick in Final Mock Draft
While Alec Lewis did indeed select Thieneman in The Athletic's beat writer mock draft , he wasn't exactly confident in his pick. In fact, the Minnesota Vikings beat writer seems very skeptical that Rob Brzezinski would target a talent like the Oregon safety, that early in the first round.
Other names to watch tonight for Minnesota Vikings draft at No. 18
Earlier this week, he mocked Kenyon Sadiq to Minnesota, but clearly believes Rob & KOC would prefer to trade back, unless a talent falls to them at No. 18 that is completely unexpected.
Here are some other names that have been heavily attached to the Minnesota Vikings in the first round tonight:
Kenyon Sadiq, TE, Oregon
Lewis : Sadiq is a freak athlete with special explosive ability. The Vikings could get him the ball in space.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, S, Toledo
Goessling : If Thieneman is already gone by the Vikings' pick, McNeil-Warren could be an intriguing option.
Peter Woods, DT, Clemson
Goessling : The 6-foot-2 defensive tackle has shown impressive quickness that could help him make up for the fact he's got shorter arms and a smaller frame than some teams might find ideal.
Lewis : He's probably the closest prospect in this draft to Seahawks defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, whom the Vikings loved a couple of years ago.
Keldrick Faulk, DE, Auburn
Lewis : Faulk is a 6-foot-5, 275-pound edge rusher/defensive lineman with positive character and heavy hands. Is he twitchy enough to rush the passer from the edge? Can he put on enough weight to impact from the interior? If he falls past No. 18, these questions could explain why.
