Money isn't the deciding factor for Auburn transfer wide receiver
Former Auburn star wide receiver Cam Coleman , who entered the transfer portal last week, has been the most sought player in the country. Yet, only four teams have a legitimate shot at landing the former five-star prospect, including Texas A&M , where he was initially committed before flipping to the Tigers during the 2023 season.
After visiting Texas on Saturday, Coleman made his way to College Station for what was initially planned to be a one-day visit. According to sources, the Alabama native stayed an extra day and is weighing his options. According to On3 insider Pete Nakos , Coleman's scheduled visits to USC and Texas Tech are still in the works. While the Aggies might have the upper hand in the relationship, Nakos stated money will not be the deciding factor for the star wideout.
"Sources tell On3 that Cam Coleman is currently on the Texas A&M campus and wrapping up his visits. More trips are scheduled to Texas Tech and USC. There is confidence in multiple camps that they can offer the best opportunity for Coleman. Money is not going to be the deciding factor in this recruitment, even though sources have said his deal could be in the $2 million range."
During his final season with the Tigers, Coleman reeled in 56 receptions for a team-high 708 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 12.6 yards per reception while playing with an average to below average crop of quarterbacks. That is likely one of the primary reasons he entered the transfer portal.
It's hard to say where Coleman stands with any team. Knowing a compensation package will not be the deciding factor, I can honestly see a scenario where it comes down to Texas A&M and Texas Tech based on each roster's strengths.
In that regard, the Red Raiders can now use transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby as a selling point, but playing with Aggie QB Marcel Reed and star wide receiver Mario Craver will be equally enticing. I don't see USC as a legitimate threat, though Texas will be in the running.
