Mountain West Player of the Year to leave SDSU, enter transfer portal

One of the best players in the entire Mountain West Conference is going to be looking for a new team this offseason.

According to On3's Joe Tipton, San Diego State Aztecs star Miles Byrd is expected to enter the transfer portal and search for a new home following the 2026 season. Byrd was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year after 10.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.9 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game this past season.

Byrd has one year of eligibility remaining and is expected to be one of the more sought-after players in the portal this cycle.

In his career with SDSU, Byrd averaged 8.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.

Despite a solid season, the Aztecs missed out on a spot in the NCAA Tournament after falling to the Utah State Aggies in the Mountain West Conference Championship, being named one of the "first four out" teams in the tournament. Byrd struggled in that game, going 2-for-8 from the field with just seven points.
