The Predators pulled themselves back into the game on the strength of goals by Filip Forsberg and Alex Kerfoot.
With how they played in the first period, Nashville has to feel good about only being down one goal.

The Predators score again. Alex Kerfoot finishes off a flurry of chances in front of Varlamov, helped by Nils Hoglander and Adam Edstrom.
Nashville has gotten themselves back in this game, it's now 3-2 with five minutes left in the second.

Nashville is on the board. Filip Forsberg finishes a nice pass from Jonathan Marchessault on the power play and it's 3-1.
Finally, some momentum for the Predators, but they'll to turn this power play energy into shots during even strength.

Another goal for the Islanders. Bo Horvat scores to make it 3-0, finishing off a beautiful pass by Matthew Schaefer.
This kind of performance is exactly what the Predators needed to avoid. A complete let down from the Colorado win.

A disjointed, penalty-heavy first period. The Islanders scored two transition goals, one by Antony Duclair and one by Brayden Schenn, and then the rest of the period was played on special teams.
New York leads 2-0 and lead in shots 8-7.

Already five penalties have been called in the first 13 minutes of this game: Nashville has three, New York has two.
Heavy special teams action tonight.

Islanders take a 2-0 lead, helped by a bad turnover in the defensive zone. Brayden Schenn finishes the play, but it was Nic Hague that fed an easy pass to Ondrej Palat on the set up.
Not a great start for Nashville tonight.

The Islanders take a 1-0 lead on Anthony Duclair's third goal of the season. Jean-Gabriel Pageu sent a perfect pass to a streaking Duclair, who tipped the puck by Juuse Saros.
Opponents scoring on their first shot of the game against Saros? Sounds familiar.

Nashville earned a power play in the first two minutes when Matthew Kessel was called for holding. But less than 30 seconds into the power play, Roman Josi was called for interference at the blue line.
Seemed more like incidental contact on the play, harsh to call a penalty on Josi there.
