After a dismal 2026 WNBA season, Sabrina Ionescu has been heavily rumored to be involved in a trade soon, and the Golden State Valkyries are one of the options. The guard took major flak for the lack of effort from the New York Liberty, and she admitted her fault in the postseason. The front office might be forced to move Ionescu before the season, but fans didn't agree with Golden State as one of the options.
Ionescu averaged 14.6 ppg, 3.8 rpg and 4.7 apg in the 2026 regular season. Though her postseason numbers were similar, fans expected a higher level in the playoffs. Amid this, a section of users on social media believed the Valkyries were one of the destinations on the list.
Meanwhile, fans were riled up by the speculation and believed she might not be the best option for the team. One wrote:
"Natalie is not dealing with a guard who is a cone on defense no way."
The Valkyries are through to the finals in just their second season in the league, with Veronica Burton leading the backcourt. If the team gets the success they are seeking this season, the front office might not want to keep the core unchanged.
Valkyries head coach Natalie Nakase was delighted after the team swept the defending champions in the semifinals. The team's success this season must be credited to stellar defense. After the Game 3 win, HC Nakase was delighted and praised the team for their efforts.
Nakase said:
"What I love tonight was your fight, okay? Everyone brought another level of fight. It was pure joy."
The head coach might be in preparation mode for the finals, given that she loves to watch game film and strategise before tournaments.
