The Washington Nationals scratched shortstop CJ Abrams from Tuesday night's matchup vs. the Philadelphia Phillies because of left side tightness.
The late change came shortly before first pitch, creating a notable absence for the Nationals in a key NL East matchup.

"CJ Abrams has been scratched from the Nationals lineup with left side tightness"
For now, Washington will have to proceed without its starting shortstop while it waits to see how quickly the issue settles.
The timing is significant for the Nationals. The team heads into the night at 41-38, sitting third in the NL East behind the division-leading Atlanta Braves (48-29) and second-place Phillies (42-36). The matchup carries added importance as the Nationals continue their pursuit of both the division race and the National League Wild Card picture.
The 25-year-old slugger has been one of Washington's top offensive players this season. Through 77 games, Abrams holds a .286/.366/.530 slash line with 17 home runs, 57 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases. Losing the production the shortstop provides just before the first pitch leaves the Nats without one of their most important bats vs. the Phillies.
As of Tuesday, the Nationals have Abrams listed as out with left-side tightness and will continue to evaluate his status beyond just the Phillies series. Washington also looks to secure the second game of the four-game set after earning a 4-1 victory over Philadelphia on Monday night.
