NBA rumors: Bill Simmons now claims 'possum' Celtics want Giannis Antetokounmpo trade appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
It feels like the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes are getting a little more clarity by every passing week, and for the most part, it seems as if the Miami Heat are in the lead . Many people were assuming it was a done deal, and all that needed to happen was the trade to get confirmed.
Now, it looks like the Boston Celtics are back in the fold , even after Bill Simmons said earlier in the week that they were out of it.
"I think they were playing a little possum; I think they're in on Giannis," Simmons said on his podcast. "I don't really know the reasons for it. Maybe they felt Miami's offer was an offer they can beat. Maybe they want to drive the price of Miami's offer up, and they actually don't have interest in him. But as I said, Giannis is pushing for Miami or Boston, and really wants to end up in Boston because he would have the best chance to win a title, and I think Boston isn't ruling out the idea."
As Simmons said, there could be several reasons to believe that the Celtics are back in on Antetokounmpo. The one thing to note is that they actually might have the best offer, especially if the Milwaukee Bucks are getting a player like Jaylen Brown back.
There's no doubt that the Celtics want to get better, and Simmons mentioned what Brad Stevens said after their series against the Philadelphia 76ers .
"He was really mad about the result and really questioning if this was the right style and whether they needed to be in the paint more," Simmons said. "I wonder if they're going to use this opportunity with the assets they have, with the $27 million trade exception, to completely change what this team looks like."
