The Nebraska Cornhuskers secured their first addition of the 2026 transfer portal cycle on Thursday, landing Belmont forward Sam Orme.
The 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward committed after three seasons with Belmont, where he developed into a second-team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection. Orme averaged 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 55.9% from the field. His perimeter efficiency stood out, as he connected on 39.7% of his three-point attempts, knocking down 48 triples for a Belmont team that finished 26-6. Across the last two seasons, he made 84 shots from beyond the arc and shot 37.5% or better each year.
Orme’s offensive efficiency extended inside as well, where he shot 70.3% on two-point attempts. He also contributed 0.9 steals and 0.7 blocks per game, while posting a 16.8% rebounding rate. His production increased from his redshirt freshman season, when he averaged 9.5 points and 4.3 rebounds in 21.2 minutes per game, to 12.8 points and 4.9 rebounds in 25.8 minutes as a full-time starter this past year.
A former four-star transfer portal prospect ranked No. 92 overall and No. 20 at his position, Orme arrives in Lincoln with two years of eligibility remaining. He redshirted his first season due to injuries before emerging as a consistent contributor, starting 28 games this past season.
Nebraska moved quickly to beat out the competition for his commitment and got him in before in-person visits began. His arrival comes amid heavy roster turnover. Seniors Rienk Mast and Jamarques Lawrence, who combined for over 23 points per game, have departed, while Berke Buyuktuncel entered the portal after starting 61 games. Additional exits include multiple rotation players, leaving Nebraska potentially replacing up to 80% of its scoring from last season’s Sweet 16 team.
Orme is expected to fill a starting role immediately, providing shooting and positional flexibility in the frontcourt to a roster still actively seeking reinforcements before the portal closes on April 21.
