Nebraska guard Sam Hoiberg named first-team Academic All-American

A Nebraska guard was named a first-team Academic All-American on Tuesday. Sam Hoiberg was honored by the College Sports Communicators.

Hoiberg graduated in December with a 3.479 GPA in sports media and communications. He is the first Nebraska men's basketball player to earn a first-team Academic All-America honor since Shavon Shields won the honor in 2015 and 2016.

The guard started all 25 games and averaged 9.3 points, 4.5 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. Hoiberg was also an honorable-mention All-Big Ten selection by both the coaches and media.

Hoiberg is one of five student-athletes selected as a first-team selection. The Nebraska guard is joined by Zuby Ejiofor (St. John’s), Tamin Lipsey (Iowa State), Nick Martinelli (Northwestern) and JT Toppin (Texas Tech).
