MLB analyst Dan Clark raised a serious accusation against Ronald Acuna Jr.'s brother and Chicago White Sox shortstop Luisangel Acuna following his poor season at the plate this year. Luisangel is batting just .235 with a .266 on-base percentage and a .536 OPS through 92 games with the White Sox.
Clark posted a graphic of Luisangel's 2026 stats and claimed the White Sox slugger is only in the league because he is the brother of the Atlanta Braves star. Clark added that apart from the stats, Luisangel's hitting abilities raise questions about his spot on an MLB roster.
"This needs to be called out," Clark wrote on X. "I don't believe Luisangel Acuña would be on a Major League roster if it wasn't for his brother being a star. This guy does not appear to be anywhere near MLB quality. Sometimes stats can be misleading, but not in this case. He's been terrible."
Luisangel Acuna originally agreed to terms with the Atlanta Braves as an international prospect. However, the Braves lost the eligibility to sign him because of the 2017 international signing scandal, leading to the Texas Rangers making a move on him. After developing with the Rangers, Acuna made his debut for the New York Mets in 2024. The Mets traded him to the White Sox in January.
In 201 MLB games, Acuna has batted .241/.283/.307 with just four home runs and 26 RBIs.
Luisangel Acuna Gets Honest About The Brothers' Upbringing
Luisangel Acuna grew up in La Sabana, Venezuela, a small coastal town where the only thing they can do is play baseball. All the brothers in the Acuna family, including Bryan and Kenny, are pursuing baseball. Their father, Ronald Acuña Sr., played eight years in the minor leagues, reaching Double-A.
Earlier in June this season, the Acuña brothers shared a moment at Rate Field during the game between Atlanta and Chicago. In the post-game interview, Luisangel said it was a "dream come true" for the brothers to share an MLB field while also noting the struggles they have seen growing up.
"Every time we are out there on the field, it's a dream come true for us," Luisangel said via interpreter Billy Russo. "When we are stretching and we are talking, when we were at home plate, exchanging lineups, it's a dream come true."
"We come from a town where there is nothing there," he added. "Where we come from, that town, the only thing you can do is play baseball. That's all it has there, a baseball field. So just being here and just realizing our dream, it's exciting. … Even before I checked the schedule, I just was imagining this moment playing against him."
While Luisangel has yet to make his mark in the league, Ronald Acuna Jr. has developed into an All-Star in MLB. Since making his debut in 2018, Acuna Jr. has earned five All-Star selections and won the NL MVP in 2023.
