Newcastle United's uneven autumn has exposed the demands of Matthias Jaissle's high-pressing system. The Magpies sit eighth after eight league matches, with three wins, two draws and three defeats. Their recent 3-1 EFL Cup defeat to Everton has added to the pressure to find greater consistency.
Jaissle needs midfielders who can press, cover ground and arrive in the box. Joe Willock offers energy in that role, particularly through his late runs into dangerous areas. The 27-year-old has featured in nine of the club's opening 11 matches, according to the report.
Yet his contract expires in June 2027, leaving Newcastle with an important decision before he can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a club outside England in January.
Jordan Cronin's report for the Shields Gazette , citing Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, says Besiktas have agreed personal terms with Willock's representatives and intend to get him again in January. President Serdal Adalı previously said the club tried to sign the midfielder in the summer, when Newcastle requested £20m.
An agreement with the player's camp does not mean the clubs have reached a deal. Newcastle have yet to agree a new contract with Willock, while Jaissle has praised his quality. This season, Willock has scored twice in eight Premier League appearances and recorded one goal and one assist in three EFL Cup games. Those contributions strengthen his case for a regular role, although Newcastle must also consider his long-term contract situation.

A £20m offer would give Newcastle a clear choice to secure a fee now or risk losing a useful squad member for nothing next summer. Selling becomes more attractive if Willock rejects a new contract, although the club should not treat the entire fee as pure profit.
His pressing and forward runs suit Jaissle's approach, making a mid-season departure a potential tactical setback. Newcastle would lose a proven option while Aladji Bamba and Sean Steur can continue developing and Lewis Miley's role remains carefully managed.
Newcastle should sell only if they can secure a replacement with comparable energy and availability. With recruitment head Tomás Amaral now in place, the club need a succession plan before approving an exit. Otherwise, a contract decision could leave Jaissle short of suitable midfield options during a demanding part of the season.
