PITTSBURGH —Sean Murphy-Bunting didn't know where to go.
The newest Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback leaned on a former and now current teammate, Jamel Dean, for some help.
"I had to actually text him yesterday morning for the address of the facility, because I was up, but I didn't know where to go," Murphy-Bunting said after Wednesday's practice at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. "I was staying up down the street, so I had to walk. He texted me too late, so it didn't really matter. But he's always a resource for me. I'm just able to always ask him about anything — playbooks, scheme, film, whatever that may be. He's always been in that corner for me."
When Murphy-Bunting's phone rang with his agent on the other end, letting the then-Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad member know the Pittsburgh Steelers wanted to add him, he was thrilled.

"When I found out, I was obviously excited, just for the opportunity," said Murphy-Bunting, who was signed to the Steelers ' 53-man roster on Monday. "I'm blessed for the opportunity to just compete and be on a team with this much talent. I'm excited for what's to come."
Murphy-Bunting, an eighth-year veteran who missed last season with a torn ACL, believes his versatility will mesh well with Patrick Graham's defense, whether working inside or outside, "whatever they need me for," Murphy-Bunting said. "And then, as far as coverages, I feel like I can play in any different scheme and any different coverage." He considers pressing receivers and playing at the line of scrimmage as strengths of him.
Being back beside Dean, a fellow coverman who the Buccaneers selected along with Murphy-Bunting in the 2019 NFL Draft, has helped. The two have stayed in touch ever since, and Murphy-Bunting considers Dean one of his best friends. Murphy-Bunting knows he has to transition quickly.
"Just being present in the meeting rooms, being present in my film work and just meeting with who I gotta meet with just to, like I said, get up to speed and be ready to go whenever my number's called," Murphy-Bunting said.
