Who will potentially be named as Troy Aikman's possible replacement on ESPN continues to rumble on with no apparent breakthrough in his contract saga.
A number of big names have been linked with the expected vacancy for the upcoming offseason as Aikman's relationship with long-standing commentary partner Joe Buck has also hit the rocks. In recent weeks, it had been suggested that Greg Olsen is one of the favourites to take on Aikman's role.
However, a fresh report has now suggested that NFL legend Peyton Manning is also in the mix for the job. The suggestion of the former Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos quarterback replacing Aikman has gone down extremely well with some fans online.
NFL fans love the idea of Peyton Manning replacing Troy Aikman on ESPN
The Athletic have suggested that Manning is actually ESPN's number one choice in their expected requirement to replace Aikman. With ESPN believed to 'love' the idea of promoting Manning to the booth, fans have shared their reactions to the news online.
'The perfect choice,' one NFL fan replied on X.
'This would be awesome actually. I would love to hear Peyton just talk ball instead of having to entertain guests on the Manning Cast,' added another.
Manning already has a lucrative deal with ESPN and he and his brother, Eli, host the Manning Cast, which is an alternative viewing option to the Monday Night Football broadcast. If Manning was to take on the role as Aikman's replacement, the Manning Cast would naturally have to come to an end.
'Peyton might be the first announcer to diagnose the defense, change the play, and call the touchdown before the ball is snapped. I enjoy Aikman but Manning would be great,' replied another NFL fan.
'Peyton in the booth I'm down for that,' said another.
It is claimed that Joe Buck has recently made Denver his home and now lives just five minutes away from Manning. However, the NFL legend has always rejected the idea of potentially taking on a role in the booth.
'This is an excellent choice,' one fan said.
'Perfect choice. Peyton will be the next John Madden,' another fan even added.
