- NFC East QB stock watch: Tanner McKee slides, Jayden Daniels rises
The NFC East quarterback market is getting harder to read. Some players are giving their teams reasons for optimism (J.J. McCarthy), while others (Tanner McKee) and their teams (the Philadelphia Eagles ) continue to watch their approval ratings slide.
With the division race still taking shape, the latest performances have created different investment opportunities — and a few warning signs. Quarterback value isn't determined by one afternoon, but how a player responds to adversity can quickly change the outlook.

So, here we are. One team in this division is trying to build momentum. Three others are trying to stop the bleeding. Week 9 offers another opportunity to see which quarterbacks are trending in the right direction.
J.J. McCarthy, New York Giants
Grade: Flat ( a stock with little to no price movement over a specific period )
The New York Giants sat idle in Week 8, so the conversation surrounding J.J. McCarthy hasn't changed much. No new performance to evaluate, so his previous outing remains the latest evidence for anyone trying to gauge his value.
That doesn't mean his outlook is stagnant, though. In a market like New York, a quarterback's stock can move quickly when an opportunity presents itself, and McCarthy has one coming against the Eagles.

Philadelphia is struggling, creating an opening for McCarthy to change the conversation. A strong performance could quickly turn cautious interest into genuine excitement, particularly with the Giants looking to build momentum. Don't be surprised if investors start buying in before kickoff, believing New York has a favorable matchup and an opportunity to make a statement.
Tanner McKee, Philadelphia Eagles
Grade: Capital erosion — A gradual, systematic loss in a stock's underlying value over time.
Tanner McKee won his only NFL start during the final regular-season game of his rookie season in Philadelphia, but he hasn't won as a starter since. He's 0-4 across the past two seasons, and the latest stretch has done little to strengthen the case that he can turn things around. McKee completed 23 of 34 passes for 212 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception in Philadelphia's 27-10 loss to Washington. He was also sacked five times. Across his three 2026 starts, he has 638 passing yards, two touchdown passes and two interceptions, with a 76.6 passer rating.

With the Eagles sitting at 2-6 and searching for answer s, it's fair to wonder whether McKee can deliver a win before the season slips completely out of reach. The remaining schedule offers little comfort. Few games offer Philadelphia clear chances to be favored, making the path to another victory increasingly difficult.
McKee's problem isn't simply that he has struggled; it's that each unsuccessful start makes it harder to argue the Eagles have found a viable answer at quarterback. The longer the losses continue, the more difficult it becomes to justify the investment.
Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders
Grade: Climbing a wall of worry — Rising steadily despite persistent negative news.
Jayden Daniels finally gave Washington something positive to build on, helping the Commanders end an eight-start winless streak with a 27-10 victory over the Eagles . He completed 16 of 29 passes for 217 yards and a touchdown. He added 23 yards on the ground and avoided a turnover.

It wasn't a spectacular statistical performance, but the result mattered. Washington needed a win, and Daniels helped deliver one against a division opponent. Reasons for caution remain, and one victory doesn't erase the concerns surrounding Washington's season. But the quarterback market doesn't always reward perfection.
Sometimes, it responds to signs that a player and team are moving in the right direction despite the circumstances. Daniels has given the Commanders a reason to believe they can build on something, even if plenty of questions remain.
Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys
Grade: Value trap — A stock that appears cheap or temporarily improving based on surface-level indicators but is actually a declining business with structural flaws.
Dak Prescott continues to put up productive numbers, but individual quarterback production doesn't automatically translate into team success. He completed 19 of 29 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals , added a rushing touchdown, and contributed to a Dallas offense that kept the game competitive. The Cowboys still lost 33-30, another reminder that Prescott's output isn't necessarily enough to overcome the problems surrounding him.

That is what makes the value-trap comparison interesting. Prescott can remain a productive quarterback and still be part of a team whose larger issues limit its ceiling. A strong box score can make the outlook look healthier than it is, especially when the Cowboys keep coming up short. The question isn't whether Prescott can produce; it's whether that production is enough to make Dallas a worthwhile investment.
