The NFL Draft still commands massive attention, even with a slight step back in viewership this year. Across its three-day run, the event averaged 6.6 million viewers, down 12% from last year’s 7.5 million mark, AwfulAnnouncing reports.

That dip aligns with a quieter stretch during the later rounds. Unlike 2025, which featured Shedeur Sanders ’ unexpected slide into Day 3, this year lacked a defining storyline to carry momentum through Friday and Saturday.
Why the numbers still matter
Despite the drop, the draft remains one of the most watched events in sports media. Friday’s second and third rounds pulled in 6.3 million viewers, while Saturday’s coverage averaged 3.7 million. Those figures highlight sustained interest, even without headline-grabbing drama.
It also becomes tricky to compare year-over-year totals. The league now includes audiences from platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and X, which Nielsen does not fully measure. Those additions inflate the total reach and blur direct comparisons with past drafts.

Even with those caveats, this year still ranks as the third most-watched draft on record. That says a lot about the NFL’s grip on audience attention.
The reality is simple. Fans will tune in, even when the spectacle slows down. The draft stretches over 10 hours and could technically be summarized in minutes, yet millions stay locked in. That level of engagement speaks to the league’s unmatched popularity and its ability to turn routine roster building into must-watch television.
