The Buffalo Bills released safety CJ Gardner-Johnson.
On the surface level, it's easy to explain why.
Gardner-Johnson's spitting incident against the Las Vegas Raiders took place in Week 6. The following weekend was Buffalo's bye week and Gardner-Johnson's suspension from the NFL was not fulfilled during that. After serving it against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8, Buffalo decided to cut ties with him .

NFL Network insider Cameron Wolfe has since dug deeper into why the Bills (6-1) decided now was the right time to release Gardner-Johnson.
Wolfe explained it was not just about the suspension. Play on the field factored in.
"It was not worth it for this Bills team any more," Wolfe said.
