- NFL News: Promising Update on Career-Threatening Injury for Baltimore Ravens Star
Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike suffered a neck injury early last season that many wondered if it would threaten to end his career. Fortunately for Baltimore, it appears not all hope is lost for a return.
According to ESPN's Jamison Hensley, there is now "growing optimism" within the Ravens organization that Madubuike may be able to return to football.

Both head coach Jesse Minter and general manager Eric DeCosta have been asked about Madubuike this offseason. Each time, Baltimore's top officials declined to provide an update.

Nnamdi Madubuike stats (2024):21 pressures, 17 QB hits, 11 TFLs, 6.5 sacks
Madubuike, 28, started off the 2025 NFL season in top form. He earned a 73.5 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, racking up 4 pressures, 3 quarterback hits, 2 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks through two games. He was pulled from the Week 2 game with a neck injury and weeks later landed on injured reserve, with the team never providing any indication that he would return.
Without the 6-foot-3 defensive tackle, Baltimore's pass rush suffered. The Ravens finished the regular season with the fifth-lowest pressure rate (19 percent) and the fifth-lowest ESPN pass-rush win rate (30 percent) in the NFL.
One potential sign regarding Madubuike's long-term health could come early in the 2026 NFL Draft. Holding the 14th overall pick, Baltimore could take one of the top interior defensive linemen available. If the position isn't addressed in the first three rounds, that's a fairly decent sign that Madubuike may have a real chance to play for Baltimore again.
