The Arizona Cardinals announced their final cuts to get to 53 players on their active roster. There were a few surprises, but one was that there continues to be a tradition of undrafted rookies making the team.
This year's undrafted rookie class looked like there would be little chance, but one did make the initial 53-man roster.
That is safety Wydett Williams Jr.
Williams is the fifth safety on the roster. He had 13 total tackles in the preseason.
Now, making the initial roster doesn't guarantee he will stay there, as more roster moves are likely coming, but it seems like there is an undrafted rookie who makes the roster every year.
Here are some:
-
2025: OL Josh Fryar
-
2024: WR Xavier Weaver
-
2023: RB Emari Demercado
It was QB Chris Streveler in 2020, and there were three in 2018 who ended up having long NFL careers — receiver Trent Sherfield and linebackers Zeke Turner and Dennis Gardeck.
What is fun about Williams is that he was reportedly one of the former Ole Miss players who wanted to go back and play in college. It appears that he will stick with the Cardinals, at least for now.
