- NFL trade deadline: 49ers GM explains Mac Jones trade price
The San Francisco 49ers aren't actively looking to move backup quarterback Mac Jones, and general manager John Lynch made it clear that the team would need a significant offer to consider trading him.
Jones has generated trade speculation throughout the offseason and, with quarterback-needy teams such as the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles potentially looking for options, could be a target ahead of the Nov. 10 deadline.

However, the 49ers have consistently shown little interest in moving Jones without receiving substantial compensation. Appearing on KNBR , Lynch reiterated that San Francisco is comfortable keeping its backup quarterback.
"We'd have to be really motivated to move Mac, a situation where it makes too much sense," Lynch said. "But we're very comfortable with keeping Mac."
That stance makes sense considering what Jones provided the 49ers last season. He went 5-3 as a starter while Brock Purdy dealt with injuries, helping San Francisco reach the playoffs despite significant roster attrition.
Jones proved to be a capable replacement for Purdy, giving the 49ers valuable insurance at the most important position on the field. Reports have indicated that San Francisco would want at least a second-round pick to consider moving him.

With the trade deadline approaching, Lynch's comments suggest that hasn't changed. San Francisco would need an offer it simply couldn't refuse to part with Jones; otherwise, the team appears content to keep one of the NFL's more capable backup quarterbacks behind Purdy.
