The New Jersey Devils are looking to make some changes to their team after a disappointing season, and they've already done so, trading Simon Nemec to the Calgary Flames . Dougie Hamilton was another name who was involved in trade rumors, but the Devils may be unlikely to trade him now, according to Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet.
"Dougie Hamilton is someone I'm taking off the list because the Devils moved Simon Nemec and Hamilton may be Sunny Mehta's strongest analytical defenceman left. With Nemec out, there is no longer a pressing need to move Hamilton," Kypreos wrote.
Hamilton had been in rumors since last season, and as of now, it looks like he could be safe from moving to another team.
The Devils may be busy this offseason, as they are being linked to Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets , with his future on the team in doubt.
"It is possible a team like the New Jersey Devils comes calling, as they are also shopping goalie Jacob Markstrom and could move him to another club instead of in a deal for Hellebuyck," David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported. "Trade chatter surrounding the three-time Vezina winner is expected to pick up this week, leading up to the NHL Draft, which begins on Friday."
It will be interesting to see if the Devils make a move on Hellebuyck, and he could help the team as they try to become more competitive. If he's not an option, there are some other ways they can try to improve throughout the offseason.
