The Philadelphia Flyers attempted to make NHL history earlier in the week with a record-breaking offer sheet to Anaheim Ducks forward Leo Carlsson , a five-year pact with a salary cap hit of $18 million a season.
However, despite the bold move from GM Daniel Briere , Ducks GM Pat Verbeek swung back by matching the offer sheet, ensuring that Carlsson will now be under contract with the Ducks for another five seasons. But that doesn't mean that Briere has to give up on making additional bold moves just because Carlsson will not be a Flyer now.
According to Flyers reporter Louis Cocco, the club should consider sending an offer sheet to RFA forward Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks , who remains unsigned and also recently underwent surgery that will keep him out of the Chicago lineup for the beginning of the upcoming season.

"Id be way more excited for a guy like Connor Bedard ," he said via X, formerly known as Twitter. "I know Connor Bedard is hurt, he's out for four months. I just think that his skill is unmatched. A lot of people think if the Flyers would offer sheet Connor Bedard, that, you know, the Blackhawks would match really at any number, probably true."
Bedard, whom the Blackhawks took with the first overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, scored a career-high 30 goals this past season, but was hurt during a recent offseason training session in Vancouver and had to undergo surgery.
So far through the first three years of his NHL career, Bedard has scored 75 goals with 128 assists in 219 games.
