NHL rumors: Oilers among 2 teams 'very curious' about Avalanche's Jared Bednar decision appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The Colorado Avalanche just got swept out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, at the hands of the Vegas Golden Knights . While rumors fly that Colorado head coach Jared Bednar may not be there much longer , it appears two other NHL teams are paying close attention to the situation.
"The Toronto Maple Leafs (and) Edmonton Oilers are "very curious" to see what happens with Jared Bednar," Puck Empire posted to X, formerly Twitter. The outlet is crediting The Fourth Period as the source of that information.
Bednar led the Avalanche through a great season, until the Western Conference Final. Colorado struggled against Vegas and didn't win a single game.
"Losing sucks, and losing four straight is worse. Losing, the further you go (in the playoffs), the worse it gets, for me, because you start training camp, you've got lofty goals, you put together a team that you think can accomplish those goals," Bednar said at his Game 4 postgame presser. "You go through the regular season, which was an incredible regular season, and the belief and the hope that you can accomplish those goals grows. You win a round, and it keeps building. You win another round, and it keeps building. The further you go, the closer you get to accomplishing that, and then losing, it kind of swipes it all away in an instant."
Vegas will play the Carolina Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup Final.
Maple Leafs, Oilers looking for a new head coach

The Oilers and Maple Leafs are both looking for new head coaches. Edmonton parted ways with Kris Knoblauch , following a disappointing season. The Oilers had reached the Stanley Cup Final the last two seasons.
Toronto meanwhile fired Craig Berube in May . The Maple Leafs finished the 2025-26 season with 78 points. The club missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2017.
Time will tell if Bednar is back with the Avalanche for the 2026-27 season. It appears that he will certainly have a chance to remain a head coach, if Colorado does decide to move on from him.
