Following a tough series loss to the Philadelphia Flyers in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Pittsburgh Penguins are looking to improve. Pittsburgh is reportedly getting involved this offseason with Dallas Stars star Jason Robertson .
"The Pittsburgh Penguins have a lot of salary cap space and they aren't afraid to use it. Just how GM Kyle Dubas allocates those funds, though, is the question. They've been in on Robertson and are looking to make a splash this summer," The Fourth Period reported.
The Stars are trying to work out an extension for Robertson. In the 2025-26 regular season, the winger posted 96 points for Dallas.
"The Dallas Stars and Jason Robertson's camp have gone back to the negotiating table to see if they can reach any common ground on an extension – restricted free agents can start talking to teams as of tomorrow," the outlet added.
Robertson would bring offense to the Penguins lineup. Pittsburgh is trying to quickly find a way to win, especially with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin nearing retirement. Malkin recently signed a one-year contract extension with the Penguins.
The Penguins also recently engaged in a trade with the Winnipeg Jets .
"The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired forward David Gustafsson from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for defenseman Jack St. Ivany , it was announced today by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas," the team announced on Monday.
Time will tell if the Penguins can work out a deal for Robertson. Robertson has played his entire career in Dallas. He has posted 490 career regular season points, and also appeared in 62 career playoff games.
Dallas, like Pittsburgh, made the Stanley Cup Playoffs this past season. The Stars bowed to the Minnesota Wild in the first round. Robertson posted eight points in the playoffs.
