Rumors are running rampant in the NHL right now with free agency underway and teams around the league making trades and deals. The Montreal Canadiens are seemingly one team to keep an eye on, as it appears the club has an opportunity to use one of their restricted free agent forwards as possible trade bait.

In the latest column for The Fourth Period focusing on each player rumored to be available via trade, the Canadiens' front office was pegged as an organization that may opt to trade Kirby Dach this offseason. While the 25-year-old center is an RFA, it appears he is a trade option if the club is seeking an immediate upgrade at the forward position.
"Dach is currently a restricted free agent, and the Habs appear open to moving him if they can upgrade their roster up front," The Fourth Period wrote. "Montreal hasn't given up on him and still hope he reaches his potential – he performed well throughout the playoffs – but if the Canadiens can add an impact forward, Dach could be on the outs."

Although Dach is rumored to be a trade candidate, The Fourth Period did not provide any possible trade destinations for the seven-year veteran. However, it was said in early June that the Edmonton Oilers could be a possible team seeking a deal for Dach .

Kirby Dach has played for Montreal for the past four seasons after being traded to the franchise from the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2022 NHL Draft. The Canadiens made two separate deals to land him, but is now rumored to be shopping Dach.
The former No. 3 overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft was limited to just 37 games last season due to a significant foot fracture and other lingering injury issues. Injuries have been the story of his career, as the star center has only played 60 or more games twice in his seven-year career. He finished the 2025-26 campaign with 15 points (eight goals, seven assists).
