- Norman native Keeley Parks to miss first season with Sooners after injury
With much anticipation to play for her hometown school, Keeley Parks will have to wait for a while longer to do that after an unfortunate injury.
Oklahoma women's basketball announced Monday that sophomore guard and Norman High graduate Keeley Parks will miss the 2026-27 season after suffering a non-contact knee injury in practice last week.
The announcement came a few hours before the 21st-ranked Sooners earned a massive win over No. 12 North Carolina in Paris, France, and Parks will have surgery on her knee once the Sooners return from the long trip to Europe.
Parks had plenty of hype surrounding her entering this season as she was expected to be a big contributor to the Sooners.
Parks transferred to the Sooners in the offseason from Kansas, where she spent her freshman season last year. She appeared in 16 games and got nine starts while averaging 5.1 points per game.
She couldn't find much consistent time with the Jayhawks last year and decided to return to Norman where she once was a superstar.
Parks is a two-time Gatorade State Player of the Year in Oklahoma during her time as a Norman High Tiger. She was a consensus 5-star prospect and is the all-time leader in points at Norman High with 1,859.
She helped lead the Tigers to a state runner-up finish in 2023 and the state semifinals in 2025 while being coached by her father Frankie Parks.
"We're heartbroken for Keeley," OU coach Jennie Baranczyk said in a press release. "She worked so hard this offseason to get ready for the year, and it's devastating to see her season end before it begins. Our focus is on supporting her in every way possible throughout her recovery. Keeley is a competitor, and we know she'll approach this with the same determination and toughness she brings to the court every day.
"Our entire program is behind her, and we look forward to having her back on the floor."
