Lexie Brown wasted no time turning Michael Porter Jr.'s recent comments on WNBA play back on him, using his own Denver Nuggets teammate Nikola Jokic.
Michael Porter Jr. sparked intense social media debate after questioning the athleticism and entertainment value of the WNBA, claiming women's basketball lacks high-flying play.
Ex-WNBA champion Lexie Brown was quick to counter his assessment, suggesting that there are players in the NBA who play below the rim as well.
An eight-year veteran drafted ninth overall in 2018, Brown won a title with Chicago in 2021 before making stops with Los Angeles and Seattle. Currently a free agent following her release from the Storm, the former Duke All-American uses her YouTube channel to speak out on the WNBA.
Lexie Brown uses Nikola Jokic to defend against Michael Porter Jr.'s comments
On the Curious Mike YouTube channel, Michael Porter Jr. apologised for his comments on the WNBA, where he previously suggested that the league needs to lower the rim to make it more exciting.
However, Lexie Brown gave a bit back as his guest this week.
She said: "The point I made about, you know, you eating off a player that plays below the rim and isn't really athletic and like it wasn't a shot to you. And I told you that the other night, like I think you're an amazing player. And I think that, you know, you've dealt with your hardships, your injuries and stuff.
"But for the comment of like, "Oh, they're not athletic. They're not exciting." And I'm like, "You literally played with Jokic." Like, I wouldn't say he's not exciting, but he's a below the rim player. Like, he's not very fundamental."
While Lexie Brown's broader point about below-the-rim basketball stands, her side comment about Nikola Jokic lacking fundamentals raised plenty of eyebrows.
Jokic's game is practically a masterclass in baseline mechanics. He dismantles defenses with textbook footwork, elite post control, and flawless floor vision, proving supreme basketball IQ beats raw bounce.
