If you are drafted into the NFL, that is not a guarantee you'll stay there during your first season. However, a few schools, such as Notre Dame, help the cause.
The Irish added another feather in their NFL cap on Sunday when it was announced that defensive lineman Gabriel Rubio had made the Pittsburgh Steelers 53-man roster . He overcame an injury during his senior season at Notre Dame and will live out his NFL dreams after being taken with pick No. 210.
Over the course of five years, Rubio had 66 tackles, 1 1/2 sacks and defensed three passes. It wasn't the numbers that made him valuable. The fact he would often take on multiple lineman to open a path for his teammates to make plays showed his selflessness, and that translated to the Steelers.
Surely his father is excited with this announcement. Angel played for Pittsburgh for two seasons following a three-time All-American career at Southeast Missouri State. The Rubios should be extremely proud, as is all of Irish Nation.
