Notre Dame has released its depth chart for its upcoming matchup against Wisconsin. There are some changes and surprises to the depth chart for the Fighting Irish.

OFFENSE NOTES
*** The biggest news was the return of Ashton Craigat center. He began fall camp on modified duty and wasn't taking live reps for at least the first week of camp. Craig went down with a season-ending knee injury in the 36-7 win over NC State last season, so getting him back healthy is big for the offensive line.
*** Notre Dame listed an "or" at right guard and there's still a chance that Styles Prescodcould end up getting the start. Right now, senior Sullivan Absheris listed as the first player in the "or" but head coach Marcus Freemannoted in his press conference for the game that a decision has not been made, and will be made this week.

*** With Prescod now battling for the No. 1 role at right guard there was a shake up in the depth chart at tackle. Freshman Charlie Thomwas moved over to left tackle, where he's listed as an "or" at the backup spot with classmate Grayson McKeogh. Thom is also listed at right tackle.
*** Part of the issue with the depth at guard was a camp knee injury suffered by Christopher Terek, who was initially projected as the backup at RG. Freeman also noted Absher had to come out at times in camp due to an injury.
*** Nolan James Jr.and Kedren Youngare listed as the "or" at running back behind starter Aneyas Williams. It is expected that all three backs will have a role this season, and we should see that in the opener against Wisconsin.
*** Sophomore Elijah Burresswas moved over to the boundary after being limited early in camp with a leg injury. He earned the No. 2 job behind starter Micah Gilbert.

DEFENSE NOTES
*** Senior defensive tackle Armel Mukamhad a breakout spring and reports were he was having an outstanding fall camp as well. That is reflected by him being listed as one of the starters at DT, and that was backed up by comments that Freeman made in his press conference. Transfers Francis Brewu(Pittsburgh) and Tionne Gray(Oregon) were listed as backups, with Jason Onyealso starting. All four will play a lot for the Irish at defensive tackle, and that rotation could easily go to five or six players.
*** Transfer DJ McKinney(Colorado) was listed as the first cornerback, but there is an "or" with fellow transfer Jayden Sanders(Michigan). Expect both players to get a lot of action this season, beginning in the opener. Sanders has spent time playing field, boundary and the nickel spot.
*** Notre Dame has two true freshmen in the two-deep this year, with five-star defensive end Rodney Dunhamand five-star safety Joey O'Brienearning No. 2 spots in the depth chart. Both are expected to be in the rotation and play in the opener.

SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES
*** Freshman Micah Drescheris listed as the No. 2 place kicker and kickoff specialists. The rookie showed a very strong leg in fall camp. Erik Schmidtis the No. 1 kickoff specialists and is also the backup punter behind freshman Jasper Scaife.
*** Running backs Aneyas Williamsand Nolan James Jr. were listed as the top two kick returners, with Jordan Faison being the top punt returner.
