In the 55th minute, star Portugal left-back Nuno Mendes exited the game with an apparent injury. While it was not clear at the time exactly what issue was plaguing Mendes, the Fox broadcast speculated that he was dealing with a muscle injury.
Mendes was subbed out of the deadlocked game in what was a major blow to the Portuguese team. The 24-year-old is competing in his second World Cup, and he scored his first career goal in the tournament on a free kick in a group stage match against Uzbekistan.

With Mendes being subbed out due to his injury, he was replaced by Nélson Semedo. A 32-year-old who plays for Fenerbahçe in Turkey, Semedo is making his World Cup debut this year.
