Ohio State looks to be losing another player to the transfer portal.
Per his agency, it looks like guard Gabe Cupps will be entering the transfer portal. Cupps is set to move on after a brief but notable stint in Columbus. a former Mr. Basketball, HE arrived with real in-state buzz and gave the Buckeyes a steady, defensive-minded option in the backcourt.
Cupps' path has always carried an Ohio flavor. Before college, he helped lead Centerville High School to the 2021 Ohio state title and earned Mr. Basketball Ohio honors in 2022, making him one of the state's most recognizable prep guards.
That local pedigree made his arrival at Ohio State feel like a homecoming, even though his college career began at Indiana. He was initially down to Osu and Indiana in the recruiting process before signing with the Hoosiers, then later returned to the Buckeyes as a transfer.
In his lone season playing for Ohio State , Gabe played a little over 12-minutes per game and averaged 1.7-points along with 1.1-assists and 1.1-rebounds.
For the Buckeyes, Cupps' departure is another reminder of how quickly rosters can change in the portal era. Reportedly, forward Colin White will also be entering the transfer portal, as well as junior Devin Royal, the latter of whom made Buckeyes legend Evan Turner not too happy .
Ohio State finished the year with a 21-13 record overall and a 12-8 record within the Big Ten conference. Its season concluded in the first round of the NCAA tournament in a 66-64 loss to TCU.
