The Edmonton Oilers announced on Sunday evening that they have signed restricted free agent forward Colton Dach to a two-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $1.2 million. The agreement will keep the 23-year-old under team control through the 2027-28 season, after which he will remain a restricted free agent.

Edmonton acquired Dach from the Chicago Blackhawks at the 2026 NHL trade deadline in a deal that also brought Jason Dickinson to the team in exchange for Andrew Mangiapane and a conditional 2027 first-round pick.
Dach appeared in 61 NHL games during the 2025-26 season, splitting time between the Blackhawks and the Olers. He accumulated five goals, eight assists and 13 points while adding 52 penalty minutes. Before the trade, he recorded three goals and six assists in 53 games with Chicago. After making his debut with Edmonton on March 6, he contributed two goals and two assists over eight regular-season contests.

Dach's first postseason with the Oilers included one assist in five playoff games while averaging 8:27 of ice time. He also tallied 23 hits and blocked three shots during the series.

The St. Albert, Alberta native made an immediate impression with his physical play. Dach concluded the season with 219 hits, ranking among the NHL's top 15 despite playing fewer games than the other players in that group. He also missed time on long-term injured reserve because of a lower-body injury before returning for the playoffs.
Originally selected by the Blackhawks in the second round of the 2021 NHL Draft, 62nd overall, the 6-foot-4, 218-pound forward has continued to develop into a physical bottom-six option. Before turning professional, he finished his WHL career with the Seattle Thunderbirds after being traded from the Kelowna Rockets during the 2022-23 season. He helped Seattle win the Ed Chynoweth Cup by producing three goals and 11 assists for 14 points in 19 playoff games.
Dach spent the 2023-24 season with the AHL's Rockford IceHogs, racking up 11 goals and 16 assists in 48 games. He followed that by amassing seven points in 25 NHL games with Chicago during the 2024-25 campaign while adding 26 points in 33 AHL contests.
Colton, who is the younger brother of Montreal Canadiens forward Kirby Dach, is expected to compete for a regular role in the Oilers lineup after earning a new two-year commitment from the organization.
