Both junior receivers transferred fromNorth Texasthis offseason along with quarterbackDrew Mestemaker.Last season, Young led UNT with 70 catches for 1,264 yards and 10 touchdowns. Coleman finished third on the team with 47 catches for 550 yards and two touchdowns. Young is the only Cowboy on The Biletnikoff Award preseason watch list. All that led some to assume Young would be OSU's top receiver on the depth chart.

"Yeah, and you know, there's a whole story behind the story, I think," OSU coach Eric Morris said Tuesday.

Coleman, 5-foot-6, 158 pounds, has made a career out of disproving assumptions. He has been the smallest kid on the field ever since he and Mestemaker were 5 years old playing on different flag football teams in Central Texas.
"He's been small his whole life, and you know that's never stopped him," Mestemaker said. "So to watch him go out there and perform like he has so far, I'm excited to see him play this season."

A year ago, Coleman opened UNT's season as the starter and Young was his backup. Coming off a 101-yard game againstSouth Floridaon Oct. 10, an undisclosed injury forced Coleman to miss games against UTSA and Charlotte. In those two games, Young went for 292 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
"Miles got a little banged up, you know, at one point in the season, and I think Wyatt took advantage of his opportunity," Morris said. "Just like I talked about, he went out there and performed at a really high level, and was rewarded for it."
There is no animosity between the pair as they share space in OSU's offense, Morris said. It helps they are friends off the field. Also, there should be enough catches and touchdowns to go around. Mestemaker led the country last season with 4,379 passing yards.
Coleman is a different type of receiver than Young, who is 6 inches taller and 41 pounds heavier. Coleman uses his stature to his advantage and said he has learned a lot from Morris, who was a smaller slot receiver in the Big 12 for Texas Tech from 2005-08. Coleman caught five passes for 57 yards in OSU's spring game, second in yardage behind sophomore Chris Barnes.
Oklahoma State’s Miles Coleman (1) is pictured during OSU Football Media Day in Stillwater, Okla., on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026.
"Pretty much everyone I go against is bigger than me, but I think I'm faster, quicker than everyone," Coleman said. "I use it to my advantage. Taller DBs I can get under them, reducing my shoulder, just finding different ways to get open."
"Both those guys are going to be super important," Morris said. "But you know that that'll never be an issue as far as the dynamics in our locker room, just with what kind of human beings those two kids are and what their relationship is like. And so I trust both of them. You know, and so you know we'll put them on some type of rotation where hopefully we keep them both fresh and firing on all cylinders."

OSU is a 13.5-point favorite against Tulsa and the offense has an implied point total of 36. The Cowboy offense didn't score more than 27 in a game last season. Coleman and Young are the players brought in to help change that.
"The sky is the limit for this offense," Coleman said in early August. "It starts at the quarterback. I think we got the best quarterback in the nation, no doubt. Got the best running back and then our receiving room is just crazy stacked. We got a lot of depth."
